Joy recently joined the firm after working for a number of years at other New Hampshire law firms and brings with her a unique tax background and experience working with high net worth individuals and their businesses.
Joy earned her B.A. in 1987 from the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics. She earned her J.D. from Suffolk University in 1991 and received her L.L.M. in Taxation from Boston University in 1993. She began her career working in the Tax Department of Arthur Andersen in Boston, Massachusetts where she concentrated in the taxation of individuals, pass through entities and non-profit organizations. In 1995, she joined the Tax Department of Sheehan, Phinney Bass + Green, PA where she concentrated on federal and state taxation issues affecting individuals, entities and non-profit organizations. In 1999, she joined the Concord law firm of McDonald & Kanyuk, PLLC where she worked with high net worth individuals to address their income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax needs. In 2007, she moved to Shaheen & Gordon, P.A. where she headed the Estate Planning and Probate Group. She has lectured and written on various issues pertaining to estate planning, probate and non-profit organizations. She is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is admitted to practice in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Joy currently resides in Concord, New Hampshire with her husband and three children. She is a former member of the Concord Rotary Club and is now a member of the Exeter Rotary Club. Joy volunteers as an assistant youth soccer coach and elementary school youth ski coordinator.
