Appellate
Kate began with the firm in January, 2001. Her diverse experience allows her to provide valuable legal assistance to both public and private sector clients on a wide range of topics. Her current specialties include municipal representation, particularly in telecommunications and land use, and representation of non-profit organizations.
Prior to working with DTC, Kate's experience encompassed working for both trial and appellate state courts, giving her insight into the judicial perspective. This training allows Kate to provide substantive and procedural guidance to clients navigating the courts. She also worked in private practice, litigating in state and federal courts on a broad range of issues.
A native of New England, Kate was born and raised in Waterville, Maine. She attended Brown University and received a BA in 1982. After working for two years for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Kate attended Northeastern University Law School in Boston, MA, receiving her J.D. in 1987. She clerked for the Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court, then moved to Washingon, DC, where she was counsel to Senator Patrick Leahy on the Senate Judiciary Committee. During a six-year sojourn in California, Kate worked for a private, civil litigation firm in San Francisco and later was Court Staff Attorney for the Yolo County Superior and Municipal Courts. She returned to New England and spent four years raising her small children, then returned to the work force part-time. She is a member of the Bars of the States of New Hampshire, Vermont, California, and the District of Columbia. She is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of New Hampshire.
Kate resides in Exeter with her husband, Steve Jones, the Medical Director of Lamprey Health Care and their three children. Kate was elected to the Exeter School Board in 2005. In addition to her professional work, Kate remains active in community volunteer work.
